Prof. Edi Barkai

PI

Both my undergraduate (B.Sc.) and graduate (Ph.D.) degrees in Biology were completed at the Ben-Gurion University in Beersheva, Israel. Subsequently, I completed my post-doctoral training within the Psychology department at Harvard University, where I combined cellular neurophysiology with network computational modeling, to study the mechanisms underlying associative memory in high brain areas. Since my return to Israel and the establishment of my own laboratory, I have been studying the biological bases of high-skill learning. To that aim, I adopted and further developed a complex olfactory-discrimination (OD) task.

Dr. Iris Reuveni

Lab Manager

I have a background in theoretical neuroscience and a deep knowledge in experimental neuroscience. I use this knowledge to initiate projects that combine both domains, as is evident by the project of memory amplification mechanism.

Sankhanava Kundu

PhD student

I'm Shonkho, joined Prof. Barkai’s lab in Sep 2018 as a research student and eventually a PhD student from Oct 2019 onward.

I am interested to understand the cellular manifestation of olfactory rule learning and role of inhibitory inputs over olfactory cortical principal neurons following learning, using olfaction as model system. I enjoy nature photography and cooking !!!

Alaa Saleh

PhD student

Initially joined the lab in 2019 as a master's student following the completion of my bachelor's degree in biology and medical science at Haifa University. After obtaining my master's degree, I commenced my Ph.D. in 2022 under the guidance of Prof. Edi Barkai and Prof. Inna Gaisler-Salmon. My research focuses on studying the impact of predicted and unpredicted stress on mice and their subsequent generations.

Ashutosh Ahire

PhD student

I’m Ashutosh, originally trained as a Pharmacologist at NIPER, India. I transitioned to working as a Research Fellow in the department of Neurophysiology at NIMHANS, India. Currently, I’m part of Edi’s lab since 2022, My focus lies in electrophysiology for a captivating Memory Amplification Project, holding promising potential for PTSD treatment pathways.

Moomin Mushtaq

PhD student

I hail from the picturesque region called Kashmir. My academic journey includes Postgraduate (MS) from India and a Postgraduate Diploma in Clinical Research (PGdCr) from the University of Manchester, United Kingdom. Previously, I worked as a Pre-doctorate Fellow at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) New Delhi, where my research focused was on neuroinflammation and its implications for neurogenic niches. Using transgenic mice and immunohistological markers, In May 2024, I joined Edi’s lab as a PhD fellow.
